State Secretary Reveals No Plans Yet for Salary Cuts for Ministers and DPR Members
JAKARTA - State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that there are no plans to cut salaries for ministers and members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR). According to him, such plans have not been discussed in detail following proposals for cost-saving measures. The issue of salary cuts for ministers and DPR members has emerged amid the intensifying conflict between the US-Israel and Iran. “Not yet. It hasn’t been discussed in detail,” said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Nevertheless, Prasetyo said that President Prabowo continues to conduct routine evaluations of the cabinet’s performance. Prasetyo stated that the evaluation of ministers is carried out by Prabowo every day. “The evaluation is in the context of whether we, as the President’s aides, have been able to carry out the tasks assigned by him,” he said. Prasetyo emphasised that when an evaluation is conducted, it does not necessarily mean that the minister in question will immediately be reshuffled. “It doesn’t mean that every evaluation will always result in a change or reshuffle. It’s not like that,” Prasetyo added. The salary cuts are one of the measures taken by Pakistan to prevent excessive shock in its country. Pakistan has reduced salaries for DPR members by 25 per cent and is not paying cabinet members. It is known that Pakistan has already considered the war between the US and Iran as a critical situation, to the point of calling it “critical measures”. Prasetyo previously stated that the government is still detailing the study on those salary cuts. So far, Indonesia’s fuel oil (BBM) stocks, following Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, remain relatively safe. Indonesia continues to ensure BBM supplies are sufficient for the next 21-25 days, in line with national standards adjusted to storage capacity. “Although in terms of BBM supply, we don’t need to worry, because the stock is safe. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and the President Director of Pertamina have also stated that our reserve stock for so many days doesn’t mean the oil runs out after that; it’s a storage mechanism where it’s refilled once empty, refilled again once empty,” Prasetyo explained.
