Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto received Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir and the coach of the Indonesian national football team, John Herdman, at Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Friday (19/6/2026). The meeting was held to discuss the development and strengthening plans for national football.

According to Prasetyo, the meeting likely addressed future steps to strengthen the national team, including the follow-up to the naturalisation process for players who recently received approval. "It is likely about that, including future plans. Of course, if we aspire to qualify for the World Cup, we must prepare ourselves far more thoroughly," said Prasetyo.

Additionally, the discussions were expected to cover preparations for various upcoming international football events and efforts to improve the national competition climate so it can produce quality players to reinforce the national team. He noted that reforming domestic competition is a crucial factor in realising the great ambition of the Indonesian people to see the Red and White team perform on the World Cup stage.

The meeting also took place amid public enthusiasm following the World Cup tournament, which has been underway for over a week. Although the Indonesian national team has not yet qualified for the finals, the government still appreciates the high public spirit in welcoming the quadrennial football festival.

He assessed that various public viewing events organised by regional governments and the private sector are positive. This is because they not only strengthen community togetherness but also help drive economic activity at the local level. "We are also monitoring that in several regions there are many public viewing initiatives carried out by local governments and the private sector. I think this is something very positive and very good," said Prasetyo.

Prasetyo also invited the public to continue supporting the development of national football by fostering optimism that Indonesia can one day appear in the World Cup.
