State Secretary: Government Intensifies Coordination to Maintain Rupiah Stability

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has emphasised that the government continues to monitor the development of the rupiah exchange rate, which has faced pressure, breaching the level of Rp18,000 per US dollar. He stated that the government is not remaining idle and is conducting intensive coordination with various relevant authorities to maintain national economic stability amidst global financial market dynamics.

“Regarding the issue of the rupiah, we, the government—in this case, the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia, and also the Financial Services Authority—continue to coordinate intensively to monitor and implement necessary measures,” Praselyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday.

According to Prasetyo, the government believes that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals remain in a strong position. This is reflected in sustained economic growth and inflation levels that remain under control.

“We must be confident that our economic fundamentals, as reflected by economic growth and maintained inflation, are, God willing, sufficiently strong,” he added.

The rupiah exchange rate closed weaker by 0.46 per cent at Rp18,049 per US dollar during Thursday afternoon trading, down from the previous Rp17,966 per US dollar. While fixed-rate government bonds are not significantly affected by exchange rate fluctuations, Prasetyo acknowledged that the weakening rupiah does impact the interest payments on government debt denominated in foreign currency.
