State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi acknowledged that the rubbish problem was one of the issues that drew attention during the 81st Independence Day celebrations. Pras said the government had prepared a number of measures from the outset to deal with the cleanliness issue.

“We apologise, there are several things we need to explain regarding, for example, the rubbish problem,” Pras said after a coordination meeting with DPR leaders at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (18/8/2026).

“Of course, from the beginning this has been our concern, and we are committed to preparing as many new rubbish bins and rubbish bags as possible,” he continued.

Pras said cleanliness has been a government concern at every event. The government, he said, has increased the number of rubbish bins, rubbish bags and cleaning staff.

“Then the team tasked with handling rubbish cleanliness has also been expanded. It is just that sometimes it takes a process to resolve all of that,” he said.

“So we need to convey that the issue of cleanliness, the issue of rubbish, is our commitment at every event and always remains our concern,” he continued.

Even so, Pras said the 81st Independence Day celebrations ran smoothly. Pras said the Independence Day celebration was a momentum to foster a sense of love for the nation and state.

“In general, everything took place smoothly, in an orderly manner and solemnly. We observe that this is indeed our pride as children of the nation every August, especially 17 August when we commemorate the moments of the Proclamation. We certainly have emotional sides, our sense of love, our nationalism towards the nation and state,” he said.
