State Protects Indonesian Migrant Workers YY and SH Abused by Employer in Malaysia
The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru has provided protection and assistance to two Indonesian citizens, identified as YY and SH, who are suspected victims of violence by their employer in Johor, Malaysia. Both individuals have been picked up by KJRI Johor Bahru and are currently staying at the KJRI Johor Bahru Temporary Shelter to receive further protection and support.
The case began on Saturday (13/6), when the KSATRIA service of KJRI Johor Bahru received a complaint from an Indonesian citizen, YY, who reported physical violence committed by the employer against her and two other Indonesian citizens, YA and SH, who worked as domestic helpers in Johor.
According to the information received, the three Indonesian citizens frequently experienced violent treatment during their employment. One reported assault occurred around the end of 2025 to January 2026. After the incident, the victims were abandoned by the employer in the Kampung Melayu Majidee area of Johor.
As they still wished to remain working in Malaysia, the three individuals subsequently separated. YA went to Kuala Lumpur, while YY and SH stayed in Johor. All three were found to be working in Malaysia non-procedurally and without valid work permits. Their passports were also still held by the employer, which made them afraid to report the violence. However, as YY still felt her safety was threatened, she decided to report the case to the KSATRIA service of KJRI Johor Bahru.
Following up on the report, KJRI Johor Bahru immediately coordinated with the local police and filed a complaint. Based on information received, on Saturday (13/6), the Johor Bahru Utara District Police Headquarters detained four individuals suspected of involvement in the case.
In addition to picking up and placing YY and SH at the KJRI Johor Bahru Temporary Shelter, KJRI Johor Bahru is coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to arrange the pick-up of YA, who is currently in Kuala Lumpur, so she can receive the same protection and assistance. KJRI Johor Bahru will also facilitate the police reporting process and provide legal counsel assistance to ensure the victims’ rights are fulfilled throughout the legal proceedings.

The handling of this case is being intensively coordinated by KJRI Johor Bahru together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to ensure that the aspects of protection, legal assistance, and victim handling are carried out in an integrated and optimal manner.
