State Palace Yet to Receive Proposal for New Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes

Jakarta - Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the palace has not yet received a proposal for the appointment of a new Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) from Attorney General ST Burhanuddin. Prasetyo explained that the appointment of the Jampidsus official is carried out by President Prabowo Subianto through a presidential decree (Keppres) based on a proposal submitted by the Attorney General. “The mechanism is that the position is appointed and determined by the President through a Keppres based on a proposal from the Attorney General, which we have not received to this day,” Prasetyo said in a statement to reporters on Monday. The proposal for a new Jampidsus is intended to replace Febrie Adriansyah, who has resigned from the position. Regarding Febrie’s resignation, Prasetyo stated that the process does not require a Keppres because the resignation is a personal decision by the official to relinquish the post. “A resignation certainly does not use a Keppres, because a resignation is personal from the individual who declares stepping down from the capacity of the position held. So, it does not use a Keppres,” he said. Prasetyo noted that the mechanism for issuing a Keppres only applies to the appointment of a new official to fill the Jampidsus position. “The Keppres will apply in the context of appointing a new Jampidsus official,” Prasetyo said. Head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, said the decision was taken as a form of commitment to maintaining integrity, objectivity, and neutrality in the law enforcement process. According to Anang, Febrie’s resignation is also related to a legal process currently being handled by National Police investigators. “The Attorney General’s Office respects the decision and ensures that all duties, functions, and case handling within the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes remain running normally according to applicable mechanisms,” Anang said. Febrie, along with another individual with the initials DR, has been named a suspect in a case of alleged corruption and money laundering. The Indonesian Attorney General Commission (Komjak) assessed that a definitive Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) is needed immediately at the Attorney General’s Office following Febrie Adriansyah’s resignation. Komjak Chair Pujiyono Suwadi, when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday, explained that the appointment of Rudi Margono as Acting Jampidsus was appropriate to fill tactical needs. However, for strategic needs, he assessed that a definitive Jampidsus is needed immediately to replace Febrie Adriansyah.
