Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has announced that the employment status of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) serving as teachers will be transferred to become central government employees. The decision resulted from an agreement reached during a meeting between the government and the House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

Prasetyo explained that the measure was taken to provide certainty of status for teaching staff. “We jointly agreed that the employment status will be moved to become central employees or central government employees,” he said after the meeting.

Under the new policy scheme, there are two crucial points for PPPK teachers. The government is currently synchronising teacher employment data comprehensively. Prasetyo stressed that resolving this issue requires careful calculation from various aspects and cannot be done partially. In addition to coordinating with the legislature, the government is also actively absorbing input from various teacher associations.

Regarding the budget, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed that the status transfer has undergone long-term budget requirement simulations. He guaranteed that the policy would not disrupt national fiscal stability. “These measures are taken without endangering our fiscal condition. In 2027, the budget deficit will be maintained at 2.4 percent,” Purbaya stated.

The government is said to be committed to finding the fastest solution to the teacher employment issue while considering the state’s financial condition and data validity in the field. Prasetyo said he would personally lead the harmonisation process for the presidential regulation once it is finalised with the DPR RI.
