State Palace Instructs Coordinating Minister to BNPB to Ensure NTT Earthquake Impact Handling

A magnitude 7 earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), briefly triggering a tsunami early warning. The State Palace has coordinated with several parties to ensure the preparedness of all elements in dealing with the initial post-event situation in East Nusa Tenggara.

“Since this morning, I have coordinated with the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, and the Governor of NTT to ensure attention and preparedness of all elements in the early stages of this incident,” said Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi on Saturday.

The tsunami early warning has now ended. Tsunami waves of less than one metre were reported in several areas.

“The TSUNAMI early warning caused by the magnitude 7 earthquake on 15 August 2026 at 04:58 WIB has been declared over,” the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) wrote on its X account on Saturday.

The earthquake occurred on Saturday at 04:58 WIB with a magnitude of 7. The epicentre was located at coordinates 8.35 South Latitude and 121.27 East Longitude, approximately 36 kilometres northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, NTT, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
