State Palace assures public input on military basic training will be heeded

The Deputy Minister of State Secretariat, Juri Ardiantoro, has ensured that public feedback regarding the evaluation of military basic training (latsarmil) for prospective managers of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (KDKMP) is considered vital and is being addressed.

Speaking at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on Monday, Juri emphasised that the government is currently working to mitigate the risk of incidents similar to the recent deaths of five KDKMP manager candidates during training.

“Public input is important and is being taken into account,” Juri stated when responding to journalists regarding the training evaluation. “Evaluations and improvements are ongoing, but the core objective is to mitigate risks so that problems like the deaths of these five individuals do not recur. God willing, we will anticipate and prevent any future casualties.”

One of the steps being taken involves conducting follow-up medical examinations for all training participants.

“As a mitigation measure, organisers have also conducted follow-up health checks, observations, and isolation for participants requiring medical services,” said the Head of the Ministry of Defence’s Human Resources Development Agency, Major General TNI Ketut Gede Wetan Pastiat, during a press conference in Jakarta on Saturday.

According to Ketut, these examinations are being conducted so that instructors can understand the physical condition and medical histories of the participants. Based on these results, trainers can adjust the intensity of physical training to suit each individual’s physical state.

In addition to medical screenings, the authorities will also strengthen coordination with several hospitals to ensure that any referred participants receive maximum medical care.
