PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) will undertake the construction of more than 20 ships this year. The Chief Executive Officer of PT PAL Indonesia, Kaharuddin Djenod, stated that this is separate from existing company projects.

“We will have projects to handle under contract and this year we will construct more than 20 ships, which we will distribute to shipyards that have the necessary commitment and meet the requirements to build vessels of various sizes,” he said during a meeting at Hotel Movenpick Jakarta on Friday evening (27 February 2026).

He noted that these vessels are orders from state-owned enterprises. “This initial step involves all ships ordered by state-owned enterprises,” he added.

In undertaking this project, Djenod will involve supporting component industries, including PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk. (KRAS), which is a steel producer.

“This initial step that we will take immediately will also directly involve component industries for the construction of more than 20 ships,” he stated.

The company has conducted preliminary consolidation to maximise the potential of the maritime ecosystem with approximately 100 supporting industry companies.

According to Djenod, the objective is to optimise all potential maritime and ship requirements for Indonesia so that they can be executed independently by all Indonesian shipyards and all Indonesian component industries.

Djenod emphasised that strengthening the maritime ecosystem is not intended to monopolise the market but rather is a government mandate to build quality across the entire maritime industry and its ecosystem.

“Together and simultaneously, we also aim to consolidate value and achieve economies of scale to develop supporting industries that we have not yet possessed,” he explained.

“Hopefully within 1-2 or 3 years, we will have achieved 50-60% of supporting industries,” he added.

Chief Executive Officer of KRAS Akbar Djohan stated that the company, as a national steel producer, serves as a supporter for steel products to meet national maritime specifications.

“We, as a steel plate producer, aim to realise the best product support and meet specifications so that the output of this maritime industry can be realised and delivered as a sovereign nation and establish Indonesia as a global maritime hub,” he concluded.
