The government is urging the acceleration of the restructuring of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) with a target to complete it this year. This push arises amid efforts to improve the performance of red-plate companies to make them more efficient and competitive. Head of the SOE Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN), Dony Oskaria, stated that completing the restructuring is not just about meeting deadlines but ensuring fundamental changes. “This year we must complete all SOE restructurings and it is hoped that this can be done on time. And not only on time, but also fundamentally complete,” he said to reporters after a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4). This improvement is being pursued through consolidation in several strategic sectors. In the logistics sector, the government is preparing a major merger that will unite 15 companies into one national entity. “Insha Allah, this will also be completed within this month. We will announce 15 companies becoming one national logistics company. We reported this one by one. Insha Allah, hopefully the SOE transformation process will be faster and the benefits will be more felt by the Indonesian people,” Dony explained. Consolidation is also targeting asset management companies to form stronger entities. The government hopes that a larger scale can improve efficiency while enhancing competitiveness amid global pressures. In the transportation sector, attention is focused on improving rail services. Several electrification projects for lines such as Jakarta-Rangkas, Jakarta-Cikampek, and Jakarta-Sukabumi are being prepared to support improvements in public service quality. “So indeed, the railway must be made into a healthy company so that it can provide good public transportation services to the Indonesian people,” he said. In addition, the government is accelerating the completion of the debt restructuring for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail or Whoosh. The process is said to have reached the final stage and is just awaiting formal completion before announcement. “I just discussed it with the Finance Minister as well. And there is already agreement. It’s done. Studies and so on have been completed. We just need to go through the formal process,” Dony revealed.
