State-Owned Enterprises Oversight Body to Conduct Comprehensive Evaluation of Train Operations
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Oversight Body (BP BUMN), Dony Oskaria, stated that a comprehensive evaluation of train operations will soon be conducted to improve safety for users of this mass transportation mode, following the accident between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and the KRL Commuter Line in East Bekasi.
“We will soon carry out a comprehensive evaluation, both of our train operations and particularly those related to safety,” Dony said when met on the sidelines of the Jakarta Globe Insight event held in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He mentioned that there are approximately 1,800 railway crossings that must have their quality improved to prevent similar train accidents from recurring.
This issue has also attracted the attention of President Prabowo Subianto, as reflected in the budget allocation to immediately repair all those crossings, either through the construction of guard posts or flyovers.
The required budget is estimated to reach nearly Rp4 trillion.
Later, Dony continued, the budget for crossing improvements will be combined with the train and BUMN budgets that will participate in enhancing safety for train users as well as road users crossing the tracks.
“This shows serious attention to this mass transportation. And I also need to convey that the President greatly loves this public train transportation,” Dony said.
The accident involving a long-distance train and a commuter train on Monday (27/4) occurred at East Bekasi Station, Bekasi, West Java.
In that accident incident, the Argo Bromo train crashed into the stationary KRL Commuter Line at East Bekasi Station, after a taxi blocked the KRL in the railway crossing area near Bulak Kapal according to the Public Relations of PT Kereta Api Indonesia Daop I Jakarta.
The President Director of KAI, Bobby Rasyidin, stated that as of 08:45 WIB, 14 people were recorded as having died.
