REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Amidst the public’s need to return to their hometowns, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) is preparing 3,500 free ‘mudik’ (homecoming) seats through 88 bus fleets during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026. This programme is part of the 2026 State-Owned Enterprises’ Free ‘Mudik’ initiative. For many workers in Jakarta and its surrounding areas, this facility serves as an alternative when bus and plane ticket prices usually surge. BTN’s Corporate Secretary, Ramon Armando, said that ‘mudik’ is not just an annual journey, but also an emotional moment to reunite with family. “Eid is a moment of togetherness that the public eagerly anticipates. We want to provide a safe and comfortable journey, while also giving ‘mudik’ travellers peace of mind,” he said on Wednesday (25 February 2026). The departure is scheduled for 17 March 2026. The routes served include various cities in Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, southern West Java, and even Sumatra, such as Palembang, Padang, and Pekanbaru. BTN is opening registration for active customers who have activated the company’s digital application. Each account can be used for a maximum of four tickets. According to the company, this scheme is also part of the effort to encourage the use of digital services among customers. In addition to targeting general customers, BTN is also sending a number of internal employees, such as cleaning staff and drivers. This step is considered a form of appreciation for the workers who have supported the company’s operations. Amidst predictions of a surge in ‘mudik’ traffic this year, the additional fleets from various State-Owned Enterprises are expected to reduce congestion and also reduce the risk of unsafe, unofficial travel. For some people, free ‘mudik’ seats are not just a facility, but an opportunity to return home without having to sacrifice other household needs.
