State Funeral for Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu on Pancasila Day
The funeral of former Defence Minister General (Ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu will take place on Pancasila Day, Monday 1 June 2026. The government, through the Ministry of Defence, has prepared a final military honour ceremony at the National Heroes Cemetery in Kalibata, Jakarta. Ryamizard passed away on Sunday at 14:03 WIB at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital in Jakarta. During his career, he was a senior military figure who served as Army Chief of Staff from 2002 to 2005 and Defence Minister during President Joko Widodo’s administration. Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defence Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defence’s Secretariat General, stated that Ryamizard’s coffin is scheduled to arrive at the ministry building on Monday at 07:30 WIB for a wake in front of the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Hall. ‘The wake ceremony will be led by the Deputy Minister of Defence as the ceremony inspector,’ Rico said. He explained that the Ministry of Defence will hold a farewell ceremony at 11:00 WIB before the coffin is transported to the National Heroes Cemetery in Kalibata for a military burial. ‘His various ideas, policies, and contributions will always be part of the Ministry of Defence’s journey in safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,’ Rico said. According to Rico, Ryamizard was not only a former Defence Minister but also a leader who left a legacy of leadership, dedication, and strong commitment to building the nation’s defence system. Throughout his military career, Ryamizard was recognised as a senior retired Army officer who made significant contributions to safeguarding national sovereignty and strengthening national defence. MPR Vice Chairman Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas) recalled Ryamizard Ryacudu’s ‘grass general’ philosophy during the burial ceremony at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery. Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin paid final respects as General (Ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu was laid to rest at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery. President Prabowo Subianto attended the wake and farewell ceremony for General (Ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu at the Ministry of Defence. The burial ceremony for Ryamizard Ryacudu will be conducted as a military funeral at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, representing the nation’s highest tribute. All defence cooperation opportunities will be thoroughly assessed, taking into account the operational needs of the TNI, national fiscal capacity, and technology transfer aspects.
