Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the budget for the gentengisation programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto will not exceed Rp 1 trillion. “Gentengisation will not exceed Rp 1 trillion,” he said in Jakarta, cited from Antara, on 4 March 2026. The minister explained that the gentengisation, or replacing tin roofs with tiles, does not require a large budget, because the programme only targets houses that use tin roofs, meaning not all homes are included in the target. Therefore, according to him, the budget for the gentengisation programme remains controlled. Previously, the government was preparing a gentengisation assistance programme under the Self-help Housing Stimulus (BSPS) scheme with a per‑home requirement of Rp 2 million to Rp 3 million. Housing and Settlement Affairs Minister Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, said the programme is part of the integration of the people’s housing policy implemented by the government alongside various financing schemes and housing quality improvements. He noted that the BSPS programme does not solely focus on structural repairs but is also aimed at absorbing domestically produced products, including tiles produced by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). “In line with the President’s directive, this gentengisation programme will utilise MSME products to boost the people’s economy,” Ara said during a Coordination Meeting on the Housing Programme at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday (25 February 2026). In addition to the gentengisation programme, the government is also integrating several housing financing schemes such as Tapera, PNM, SMF, and the Housing Credit (KUR Perumahan) to broaden the reach of assistance and reduce the burden on the public. Ara stated that from 2026, all housing programmes will use the data base of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) so that aid disbursement is more targeted, considering population and poverty levels in each region. He also stressed the importance of central–regional government synergy in addressing slum areas, which are planned to take place in 15 provinces in 2026. Through this programme integration, the government aims to improve the quality of people’s homes while encouraging beneficiaries’ economic independence so that the repaired dwellings are maintained and do not revert to becoming slums.
