House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad assessed that the share buyback actions undertaken by a number of companies, including state-owned enterprises (BUMN), reflect confidence in the companies’ strong fundamentals amidst market turmoil. According to Dasco, the recent correction in the stock market became a momentum for companies with strong fundamentals to increase their share ownership through buybacks. “Actually, BUMN and private companies with strategic projects have strong fundamentals. So, when the market price was falling recently, of course BUMN or Himbara then bought back,” Dasco told reporters on Thursday (11/6/2026). He assessed that this step demonstrates confidence that the valuations of strategic issuer shares remain attractive even though the market experienced pressure. Besides buyback actions by companies, Dasco also touched on the role of investors and investment institutions that utilise market weakness to accumulate shares. “Or then institutions that carry out investments and the market certainly see that it is very strategic to buy back during a market situation like recently,” he said. Previously, Dasco gathered the directors of Himbara, along with the Head of BP BUMN and Chief Operating Officer of Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara) Dony Oskaria, and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi on Tuesday (9/6/2026). The meeting discussed the phenomenon of the currently volatile stock market, including the plummeting shares of state-owned banks. At this meeting, Dasco discussed opening opportunities for share buybacks. “It is time for us to discuss, then at the right opportunity to buy back shares in the market,” he concluded.
