Interior Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian conducted a working visit to Southwest Papua Province on Monday (27/4/2026). The inspection was carried out to check the latest progress of the development of the Central Government Area (KPP) for the New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Southwest Papua. During the inspection, Tito was accompanied by Governor of Southwest Papua Elisa Kambu, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Southwest Papua, and several leaders of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development in Papua (KEPP OKP). Tito also listened to a report from the Head of the Southwest Papua Building Layout, Infrastructure, and Area Agency (BPBPK), Corneles Sagrim, regarding the latest progress of the KPP DOB Southwest Papua development. He also engaged in direct dialogue to ensure that the acceleration of development continues to be optimised. The same applies to the Southwest Papua DPRP Office and the Southwest Papua People’s Council, which have reached 100 percent completion. “The kick-off work for the development of the Central Government Area DOB Southwest Papua began in September 2024, marked by the laying of the first stone or groundbreaking by the 13th Vice President, Mr Ma’ruf Amin,” he stated in a written remark received by Kompas.com. In response to the report, Tito appreciated the rapid progress of the KPP DOB Southwest Papua infrastructure development. He requested that the building be immediately operationalised once ready to optimise governance. For information, Tito is scheduled to inspect the implementation of several public housing programmes in the area with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait.
