UI Alliance of Students of the University of Indonesia has stated it will stage a mass protest if the demand that President Prabowo Subianto withdraw Indonesia from membership of the Board of Peace (BoP) is not heeded. Razan Diandra Fatahillah, representative of UI Students for Justice in Palestine, said the planned mass action under the banner ‘Weekend Melawan’ has been organised by the UI Students Alliance and civil society coalitions on the assumption that Prabowo will ignore the demands.

‘A cross-movement mass action will be held this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday,’ Razan told Tempo on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

The ‘Weekend Melawan’ action, she said, is hoped to spur similar mobilisations in other regions so that the substance of Indonesia’s pressure exits BoP and the withdrawal of the plan to deploy Indonesian troops to Gaza can be considered by Prabowo.

Razan noted that the ‘Weekend Melawan’ actions will commence on Friday, 6 March, at the complex housing the DPR, MPR, and DPD, with the following day set for the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue area in Central Jakarta. ‘Sunday’s location is tentative,’ she said.

Yesterday, the UI Alliance sent a letter to Prabowo via the Ministry of the State Secretariat. There are four demands in the letter.

The four demands are: urge Prabowo to halt the plan to deploy TNI soldiers to Gaza in the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) mission; urge and hold Prabowo to his promise to withdraw Indonesia from BoP.

Additionally, Prabowo and the Red and White Cabinet must revise the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is seen as reducing the US-Israel military operation to Iran as an implication of failed negotiations, and instead condemn and denounce the US-Israel.

‘We also give the President and his staff an ultimatum to meet all the demands within three 24-hour periods before the people’s anger descends,’ said Fathimah Azzahra, a representative of the UI Alliance.

The Alliance argues that Indonesia’s participation in BoP conflicts with the mandate of the preface to the 1945 Constitution which rejects all forms of colonialism. In the forum, it says, the dominant role is shown by the United States and its ally Israel without Palestinian representation.

Israel occupies Palestinian lands with military aggression. The US has repeatedly vetoed attempts by the United Nations Security Council to recognise a Palestinian state.

Moreover, the decision to join BoP was made by Prabowo when he attended the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on Thursday, 22 January.

In the presence of US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Prabowo appended his signature to the BoP charter as a sign of agreement to join the forum formed by Uncle Sam, a close ally of Israel.
