JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) No. 5 of 2026 on the obligation to sort waste at source will take effect on Sunday, 10 May. This policy will be officially declared in the Rasuna Said area, Jakarta, alongside the launch event for the 499th Jakarta Anniversary (HUT DKI Jakarta). “So tomorrow, on the 10th, we will begin implementing the Ingub that I signed for waste sorting, and at the same time, the 499th anniversary declaration will be held at Rasuna Said,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (6/5/2026). The aim is to ensure that waste is not mixed when disposed of at final disposal sites. The instruction involves all levels of the regional government, from the Regional Secretary, department heads, mayors, district heads, to ward heads. In the instruction, the Regional Secretary is tasked with providing general guidance, while the Secretary’s assistants conduct monitoring of implementation in each regional apparatus and report results every three months. Heads of regional apparatus are required to carry out sorting and processing of waste in offices and public facilities. They must also educate employees, business actors, and event organisers, as well as form task forces for supervision to ensure only residual waste is produced. The Environmental Agency (DLH) plays a role in educating, supervising waste sorting up to temporary disposal sites (TPS), and ensuring that waste transportation remains sorted until it reaches the landfill (TPA). In addition, this agency optimises facilities such as waste banks, TPS3R, RDF, and Waste-to-Energy Power Plants (PLTSa). The Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) guides business actors such as hotels, restaurants, and cafes in managing food waste.
