House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani attended a social welfare event organised by the DPR Spouses’ Association (Persaudaraan Istri Anggota/PIA) at the Pustaka Loka Hall in the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, today.

In her address, Puan emphasised the importance of the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) during Ramadan within the DPR community. She said the holy fasting month must be given deeper meaning through social solidarity movements.

“Ramadan always teaches us that blessings are not only about what we possess, but about what we share,” Puan said in a written statement on Thursday (19/2/2026).

At the event, PIA DPR distributed basic food parcels to DPR employees and donations to orphans to mark Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. Puan expressed her belief that the distribution of food parcels and donations to orphans was not merely a routine annual event.

“This event is a tangible expression of care, togetherness, and the spirit of gotong royong within the DPR RI family. In this holy month, we are not only strengthening personal worship, but also strengthening social solidarity,” she said.

Before the assembled employees and DPR members, Puan conveyed that the commitment to strengthening social solidarity must begin from within.

“From how we build togetherness, maintain solidarity, and cultivate care within the DPR RI’s own ranks,” Puan said.

“Because a strong institution is not only defined by the authority it holds, but by the cohesion and care of the people within it,” she added.

Puan assessed that the spirit of togetherness demonstrated by PIA DPR serves as an important foundation for the DPR to carry out its constitutional duties properly, responsibly, and wholeheartedly.

“If we strengthen one another internally, respect each other, and care for each other, then that positive energy will be reflected in all our work and service to the nation and state,” she explained.

Puan stated that the DPR leadership regards parliamentary employees, including security personnel (Pamdal), cleaning staff, and honorary employees, as essential parts of the institution’s operations. “Without the dedication of all of you, the DPR’s constitutional duties would not function properly,” Puan stressed.

Puan also expressed her appreciation for PIA DPR for initiating and organising this meaningful event. “May this spirit of togetherness and care continue to be maintained, not only during Ramadan, but throughout the year,” she said.

Puan also called upon all parties within the DPR to use Ramadan as a moment to strengthen social solidarity, deepen empathy, and reaffirm their commitment to standing with the people.

“May every small act of kindness we carry out today become a deed that brings blessings for us all,” Puan said.

The social welfare event was led by PIA DPR Chairwoman Euis Handayani Dasco. Together with DPR leaders and PIA officials, Puan symbolically distributed basic food parcels to DPR employees and donations to orphans.

The event featured Quran recitation and marawis performances, concluding with a group photograph.

Puan was joined by other DPR leaders including Deputy Speakers Saan Mustopa, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, and Sari Yuliati. Also in attendance were PIA Deputy Chairwomen Ilah Holilah Saan Mustopa and Eneng Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, along with other PIA officials.
