UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed efforts to resolve the conflict in the Middle East with US President Donald Trump, according to the Prime Minister’s office. During the conversation on Saturday afternoon local time, Starmer expressed his support for Trump’s efforts to end the conflict with Iran. “The Prime Minister spoke with US President Donald Trump this afternoon. The Prime Minister expressed his support for President Trump’s efforts to end the conflict with Iran,” the statement from the Prime Minister’s office read. “He also welcomed the progress that has been made, and stressed the importance of ensuring that any deal results in sustainable and lasting peace.” Starmer also affirmed that the UK is ready to support the implementation of any peace agreement reached and to work with international partners to ensure its success. The two leaders also stressed the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in international shipping lanes. On Thursday, Trump told journalists that all final points in a peace agreement between the United States and Iran had been agreed upon by all parties involved, including Israel. Trump stated on Saturday that the agreement is scheduled to be signed on Sunday (14 June).
