Starlink Investment in Indonesia Only Rp30 Billion, Requires Just Three Workers

Investment Minister and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has disclosed the investment value committed by Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink. During a working meeting with House of Representatives Commission VII on Tuesday (11/6), the investment value was described as not substantial, with only three registered workers. “According to OSS (Online Single Submission) data, Starlink’s investment is Rp30 billion. There are three registered workers,” Bahlil explained. He admitted that he and the Ministry of Investment/BKPM did not directly handle the operations or engage in technical discussions regarding Starlink. The statement came after he was bombarded with questions about the investment details by members of Commission VI. “I can be honest, I did not directly handle this Starlink matter. My team and I never conducted technical discussions related to Starlink. Beyond the data we have, I cannot provide further explanation, as I fear giving additional information that could lead to multiple interpretations,” he stated. When asked who was responsible for the technical aspects of Elon Musk and Starlink’s investment in Indonesia, Bahlil also claimed ignorance. “I do not know who conducted the technical discussions, but I did not follow them. We only handled the Business Identification Number (NIB) registration and the basic permits,” he said briefly.
