Starlink Internet Vendor Selling Vouchers for Rp10,000 to be Mentored as Official Reseller
The Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stated that the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) will provide guidance to Yogi Gilang Arya Setia to help him become an official or licensed reseller.
Yogi, a resident of Mentawai, previously drew public attention after his case surfaced regarding the sale of Starlink internet voucher services to provide connectivity to the local community.
Regarding the form of guidance, Meuthea continued, the Ministry can assist in fulfilling licensing requirements. Komdigi can also help connect such individuals with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that already possess the necessary permits, ensuring that these activities operate within the official telecommunications ecosystem.
“How will this be done? We can assist them in obtaining permits. Instead of criminal prosecution, we will help them secure licences. Or we can also assist by connecting them with ISPs that have already obtained permits in that region,” Meutya said in a press statement cited by CNBC Indonesia on Monday (31/8/2026).
Consequently, Meuthea added, individuals like Yogi can become part of the ecosystem or act as resellers for those ISPs.
Meutya emphasised that this approach is not intended to interfere with ongoing legal processes, but is rather part of Komdigi’s effort to find solutions for the connectivity needs of the community in Sikakap.
“Once again, without diminishing respect for the applicable legal process, we want to implement approaches or solutions for the residents of Sikakap Village who have good intentions regarding connectivity there. We want to help ensure that these activities become legal or licensed,” she explained.
The Minister added that, in general, 4G connectivity is already available in all village areas across Indonesia. However, fibre optic services are not yet universal, which is significantly felt when users require high-speed internet.
It was previously reported that Yogi’s intention to provide internet access to the community led to legal proceedings. Yogi, who sells Starlink internet vouchers, is currently a defendant at the Padang District Court, West Sumatra.
According to the Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) of the Padang District Court, under case number 450/Pid.Sus/2026/PN Pdg, Yogi is charged with operating telecommunications networks and services without a permit in the Mentawai Islands Regency.
Based on court documents, the evidence used to charge Yogi includes Starlink internet equipment and hundreds of vouchers.
Specifically, 257 vouchers for 2 GB of data were priced at Rp10,000, 253 vouchers for 6 GB were priced at Rp23,000, and 58 vouchers for 10 GB were recorded as bonuses. In addition to the Starlink equipment, authorities seized several supporting network devices, including routers, converters, and inverters.
