Staring Incident Ends in Machete Attack in Tangerang, Three Arrested

Police have arrested three perpetrators who attacked teenagers in the Jatiuwung district of Tangerang City, Banten. The assailants attacked after allegedly feeling offended following an encounter with the victims.

The machete attack occurred on Wednesday, 13 May at Flyover Taman Cibodas. The victims were pursued by the perpetrators until the stabbing took place.

“We will not tolerate street violence and motorcycle gangs that disturb the community. All perpetrators involved will face strict legal action in accordance with applicable law,” said Tangerang City Metro Police Chief Kombes Raden Muhammad Jauhari to reporters on Sunday, 24 May 2025.

The three arrested suspects are identified as MH, DP, and GR. They were apprehended at different locations on Friday, 22 May.

Police also secured several pieces of evidence including one motorcycle, a machete, helmets, and clothing worn during the incident. The suspects admitted they felt offended after believing the victims had stared at them.

They then launched an assault. The perpetrators also attempted to steal items from the victims.

“The perpetrators then pursued the victim together with their group, boxed in the victim’s vehicle, and then stabbed them together,” he stated.

One victim sustained six machete wounds to the back and thigh. Meanwhile, another victim suffered serious lacerations to the back requiring intensive hospital care.
