TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Although many Starbucks branches in Australia and the USA have been closed down, Starbucks Coffee Indonesia intends to add more branches.

“We have continued to grow every year, by about 20 percent,” said Farah Milda, Starbucks Coffee Indonesia's Marketing and Communications Head, in Jakarta on Monday (8/9).

Farah explained that Starbucks Coffee Indonesia plans to have nine new branches in Indonesia by November 2008.

In 2007, Starbucks Coffee Indonesia opened around 15 branches and now has a total of 68 branches in seven cities with 750 employees who Starbucks refers to as partners.

Farah mentioned that the new branches will still be concentrated in Jakarta.

However, they do plan to open a new branch in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, next year.

Starbucks Coffee Indonesia believes that Balikpapan is a potential market because there are many international companies there.

In addition, it hopes that the opening of a Starbucks in Balikpapan can stimulate business development in Eastern Indonesia.

They also plan to open a branch in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

Starbucks Coffee itself is a coffee shop business from the United States, established in the 1970s.

In Indonesia, Starbucks opened in May 2000 under PT Mitra Adiperkasa.
