Staple Food Prices in Kuningan Fall as Free Nutritious Meal Programme Pauses
Prices of various staple foods in traditional markets in Kuningan Regency have declined over the past week. The decrease follows a reduction in demand as the school holiday period coincides with the suspension of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.
A price monitoring officer from the Kuningan Trade and Industry Office, Arisman, stated on Thursday (2/7/2026) that the price drops were particularly noticeable for eggs, chicken meat, chillies, and vegetables. Based on market observations, the price of chicken eggs now ranges from Rp 23,500 to Rp 24,000 per kilogram, down from Rp 25,500 per kilogram the previous Friday (26/6/2026).
Chicken meat prices have also fallen, currently ranging from Rp 29,000 to Rp 32,000 per kilogram, compared to Rp 32,000 to Rp 34,000 per kilogram the week before. Declines were recorded across all types of chillies. Red chillies are now priced at Rp 25,000 to Rp 30,000 per kilogram, down from Rp 30,000. Green chillies have dropped to Rp 15,000 to Rp 20,000 per kilogram from Rp 20,000, while green bird’s eye chillies fell to Rp 30,000 to Rp 35,000 per kilogram from Rp 40,000.
Furthermore, red bird’s eye chillies decreased to Rp 40,000 to Rp 45,000 per kilogram from Rp 50,000, red curly chillies to Rp 25,000 to Rp 30,000 from Rp 35,000, and green curly chillies to Rp 20,000 to Rp 25,000 from Rp 25,000. Various vegetables also saw price reductions. Carrots are now Rp 14,000 per kilogram, down from Rp 15,000 to Rp 17,000, tomatoes range from Rp 9,000 to Rp 12,000 per kilogram, and lettuce has fallen to Rp 20,000 per kilogram from Rp 25,000.
