Standardisation of Influencers Deemed Crucial to Maintain Credibility in Crypto Industry
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The role of influencers in the crypto industry is becoming increasingly dominant, but it has not yet been matched by clear standards. This situation is seen as heightening the risk of misinformation amid the high consumption of digital content by the public.
Industry players assess that standardising influencers is an urgent need to maintain the credibility of information and protect investors. Indodax CEO William Sutanto stated that influencers hold a strategic position in bridging complex crypto information to the public.
This was conveyed by William in one of the panel sessions of the Crypto Literacy Month (BLK) 2026. The event runs throughout April to May 2026.
“Platforms like Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and others are widely used by influencers to deliver news. However, beyond that, this also becomes a business field for influencers, as it involves marketing activities, information distribution, and education,” he said.
He explained that without clear standards, the information conveyed has the potential to mislead, given the technical and diverse nature of crypto. According to him, crypto is a topic that is not easy because it is quite technical.
“Without the role of parties educating the public, the messages conveyed have the potential to be incorrect or not delivered well. The crypto ecosystem in Indonesia would not have developed as it has now without the contributions of influencers and content creators who popularise the crypto market,” he revealed.
On the other hand, the emergence of anonymous accounts with significant influence presents a new challenge in the digital ecosystem. Such accounts are considered vulnerable to spreading unaccountable information and triggering negative campaigns.
“In several cases, including those experienced by Indodax, these accounts engage in defamation and black campaigns that harm both companies and individuals. Therefore, stricter regulation and supervision are needed to keep the crypto ecosystem healthy and integrity-driven,” he said.
According to him, standardising influencers is an important part of maintaining the quality of information in the digital space. Education still needs to be expanded, but it must proceed with principles of transparency and accountability.
“Therefore, I strongly support regulation from authorities to keep the situation under control and protect the public. On the other hand, educational efforts by influencers and content creators must continue, as long as they have clear boundaries and do not harm others,” he clarified.
This push for standardisation is strengthening alongside the increasing adoption of crypto assets in Indonesia, which requires a credible and responsible information ecosystem.
