Standard Testing Quarantine earns Reference Material Producer Certificate from KAN
Through this PBA certification, Standard Testing Quarantine strengthens its commitment to improving the laboratory’s quality management system. The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), through the Director General of Quarantine Testing Standards for Animals, Fish, and Plants (Standard Testing Quarantine), has again recorded a strategic achievement by successfully obtaining a Reference Material Producer Certificate (PBA) from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN).
“Through this PBA certification, Standard Testing Quarantine strengthens its commitment to improving the laboratory quality system,” said Risma J.P. Silitonga, head of Standard Testing Quarantine, in a Jakarta statement on Wednesday.
The certificate numbered PBA-013-IDN is valid for five years, from 30 April 2026 to 29 April 2031.
The certification recognises the technical competence of Standard Testing Quarantine in producing reference materials that meet the principles of traceability, homogeneity, stability, and quality assurance in accordance with the SNI ISO 17034:2016 standard.
She stated that the provision of traceable reference materials is intended to support laboratory testing for quarantine diseases in animals, fish, and plants.
The existence of such reference materials is one of the parameters in ensuring the validity and quality assurance of results from laboratory quarantine testing.
“The certification from KAN is not merely an administrative achievement, but a major leap in realising laboratory testing independence at home,” Risma explained.
Furthermore, Risma explained that meeting reference material requirements often poses a challenge for quarantine laboratories, especially given their status as an official Reference Material Producer.
Standard Testing Quarantine must be ready to supply the needs of laboratories testing quarantine diseases in animals, fish, and plants independently, swiftly, and to international quality standards that are beyond doubt.
Going forward, Standard Testing Quarantine will continue to promote a culture of quality, innovation, and professional laboratory practice to deliver testing services that are excellent, reliable, and competitive.
Such efforts form an important part of supporting biodiversity protection and strengthening the national biosafety system.
She added that the achievement also reinforces the Indonesian Quarantine Agency’s commitment to strengthening quarantine laboratory infrastructure that is adaptive, credible, and capable of supporting smooth trade.
“And protecting Indonesia’s biodiversity amid increasingly dynamic global challenges,” Risma said.
