Stand up to stop terrible violations
Stand up to stop terrible violations
I am a foreigner who has worked here for nearly 10 years and
loves this country. In 1994 I worked for a textile company which
was owned by a prominent Chinese-Indonesian. I was fired without
excuse or receiving the compensation stipulated in the contract.
At the time I appealed in this column for help, but in vain.
Here in this lovely country there are too many wrongful cases.
Mine is trifling compared to the kidnappings, torture and
killings by the previous governments. It was interesting to read
an article in the Washington Post of Jan. 26, 2000, titled On
Pinochet's trial. I wonder when there will be a judge like Mr.
Juan Guzman to do what he is doing and let justice be done here
at last.
If you read the article published on Jan. 26, 2000 in the Post
about illegal logging in the national park, I was saddened by the
beating of the environmental activists. I feel distressed that
this lovely country has so many wrongful cases which are a burden
on the kind and gentle people, yet nobody has the courage to
bring the perpetrators to justice.
Please, Indonesians, do something to stop the violations of
human rights and solve the unresolved cases in your own country.
