Protesters participating in the demonstration, united under the Bali Self-Managed Waste Forum (SSB), voiced several demands during their rally in front of the Central Environmental Control Office for Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Renon, Denpasar, on Thursday (16/4/2026). SSB Forum Chairman, I Wayan Suarta, presented the first demand: to keep the Suwung Landfill open without limitations on waste types. “While continuing revitalisation until the waste-to-electricity energy management facility (PSEL) becomes operational,” Suarta stated during his oration. Secondly, Suarta called on President Prabowo Subianto to personally address the waste controversy in Bali. If not, he threatened that waste transporters would refuse to collect any type of household waste. “If these demands are not met, then… then… we will stage a mass strike on waste collection,” he declared, met with cheers from the entire crowd. Suarta explained that during the ban on disposing organic waste at the Suwung Landfill, several self-managed trucks were rejected when attempting to deliver organic waste to the TPST. “The reason given was overload. We, both waste collection service providers and the community, are willing to follow government rules and directives to sort waste, whether organic, non-organic, or residue,” he clarified.
