Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri) has conveyed deep condolences for the passing of Myta Aprilia Azmy, an alumnus of Universitas Sriwijaya who was undergoing an internship and is suspected to have died due to excessive workload while on duty. The statement of condolences was issued by the university via its Instagram account @Unsri.official on Saturday, 2 May 2026.

“May the deceased be granted the best place and her bereaved family be given strength and fortitude,” wrote @Unsri.official.

Unsri stated that Myta Aprilia Azmy was currently a doctor participating in the Indonesian Doctor Internship Programme, a national programme fully under the authority of the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Health in accordance with Ministerial Regulation No. 13 of 2025.

Unsri emphasised that the regulation of Myta’s workload is outside the university’s purview. “Thus, the implementation of the programme, placement, and regulation of workload are under the authority of the relevant parties outside Universitas Sriwijaya,” it said.

Nevertheless, Universitas Sriwijaya encourages that the handling and resolution of this case be conducted objectively, comprehensively, and by the authorised parties. “We also reaffirm our commitment to the importance of the safety and welfare of healthcare workers,” it wrote.

Myta Aprilia Azmy was pronounced dead on Friday, 1 May 2026, after receiving intensive treatment at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital of Unsri in Palembang, South Sumatra. Myta’s death has drawn attention as it is suspected to have been triggered by inhumane treatment during her internship at the KH Daud Arif Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi.

The late Myta is said to have worked in the emergency ward without leave for three months. Myta was also allegedly forced to perform night shifts despite suffering from severe shortness of breath and high fever.

General Chairman of IKA FK Unsri Achmad Junaidi stated that his organisation has reported the case to Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin. The report to the Ministry of Health resulted from an internal organisational agreement.

However, he emphasised that the cause of death in the report still needs to be investigated by the Ministry of Health, including allegations of bullying in the hospital environment. “Any such allegations should be investigated by the Ministry of Health,” he said, as quoted by Antara on Sunday, 3 May 2026.

Achmad affirmed that IKA FK Unsri will continue to monitor this case until it is resolved, although full authority lies with the Ministry of Health as the party responsible for the internship programme.
