Sri Sultan Reminds that WFH is Not a Day Off
Work From Home (WFH) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta is implemented every Friday for civil servants (ASN). The Governor of DIY, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, has stressed that, in principle, the WFH policy will not disrupt services to the public.
Sri Sultan acknowledged that monitoring WFH is the most challenging aspect due to the large number of ASN. WFH is not a day off, but rather permission to work from home.
“It should be remembered that this (WFH) is not a day off; they are permitted to work from home,” Sri Sultan concluded.
The statement responds to Circular Letter No. 3 of 2026 from the Minister of PAN-RB on the Implementation of Official Duties for ASN in Government Agencies, effective from 1 April 2026.
One provision in the circular stipulates four workdays in the office (WFO) per week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; and one workday from home (WFH) on Friday. The policy explains that the number of ASN permitted to undertake WFH is determined flexibly.
The Indramayu Regency Government (Pemkab) will trial work from home (WFH) starting this month. However, the policy must not disrupt performance in serving the public.
Deputy Interior Minister Bima Arya emphasised that the WFH policy for ASN one day per week must be uniformly applied on Fridays. See the Interior Ministry’s response regarding the rejection of WFH by the Governor of South Kalimantan.
As of today, the Governor of South Kalimantan has stated that WFH will not be implemented.
