Jakarta (ANTARA) - The RW 006 community of Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa District, South Jakarta, is preparing a system of rewards and sanctions to encourage residents to sort waste from their homes as part of a waste sorting pilot project.

“For rewards, these will include certificates as well as supporting facilities, such as composters and bins for waste collection,” said the Head of RW 06 Srengseng Sawah, Anton Hardiantoni, to reporters in Jakarta on Monday.

He stated that the implementation of this system is intended to encourage residents to become accustomed to sorting waste directly at the source. He added that the RW management has held discussions with the local community and neighbourhood heads (RT) regarding the execution of the waste sorting programme.

The management has also agreed on a plan to impose sanctions on residents who fail to sort their waste. This plan will be formalised through written regulations at the local community level.

“Essentially, for residents who do not sort their waste, we will withhold their population administration services,” Anton stated.

As is known, RW 06 Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, is currently serving as a pilot project site for waste sorting initiated by the Jakarta Environment Agency. Out of a total of 11 neighbourhood units (RT), four have been designated as pilot areas: RT 02, RT 03, RT 06, and RT 11.

To oversee the implementation, RW 06 has established a “Sorting House” (Rumah Memilah) with coordinators at both the RW and RT levels. These coordinators are tasked with monitoring the continuity of waste sorting activities within their respective environments.

Anton hopes that the implementation in the four pilot RTs will encourage the remaining seven RTs to adopt the programme independently.

Previously, the Jakarta Provincial Government selected RW 06 Srengseng Sawah as a pilot project for a collaborative waste sorting and collection system involving the government, the community, the business sector, communities, and universities.

Waste management at the source in the area has been operational since the issuance of Governor’s Instruction Number 5 of 2026 regarding the Waste Sorting and Processing Movement from the Source. Through this pilot project, existing practices are being strengthened into a more integrated sorting-collection-processing system.
