Srengseng City Forest in West Jakarta to Become Waste Sorting Pilot

The West Jakarta Parks and City Forest Agency (Sudin Tamhut) plans to reorganise Srengseng City Forest to serve as a pilot site for waste sorting. Agency Head Dirja Kusuma stated the plan emerged following an inspection by West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah on Wednesday. “The Mayor requested that the Srengseng City Forest area become a pilot for the waste sorting movement and also serve as an educational facility for the public. However, the Mayor also asked that the composting site be tidied up to be more organised,” Dirja said when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday. He added that his office was also asked to create composting infiltration wells and to involve the community in the activities of the Srengseng City Forest Farmers Group (KTH). “The Mayor’s directive is for the community to be involved with the KTH to plant lemongrass. Later, the harvest can be processed into refreshing drinks,” Dirja explained. Besides offering a cool oasis with thousands of trees, the location is also a favourite spot for residents to relax while enjoying family educational tourism. “We have information that the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta will visit to see what destinations can be implemented in Srengseng City Forest, because there is an amphitheatre here, an open stage for Betawi cultural and artistic performances,” said Dirja. Srengseng City Forest is located on Jalan Kalam H Kelik, RT 08/RW 08, Srengseng, Kembangan. The area is a green open space covering 15.3 hectares, featuring a beautiful environment and fresh air thanks to the presence of more than 10,000 trees from 60 different species. The management of Srengseng City Forest provides jogging tracks and educational facilities about flora and fauna for children. Information boards are placed on each tree and plant, making it easy for visitors to identify the various species in the forest.
