Squatters threatened with action
MANADO, North Sulawesi: Manado Mayor Wempie Frederik said here
on Saturday that the mayoralty would be getting tougher against
residents squatting in public places like markets, bus terminals
or roadsides.
"I have instructed my subordinates to take stern measures
against the illegal residents in accordance with the law," Wempie
said at a coffee morning with reporters.
He said that the squatters had made Manado look a mess and
their existence could create traffic problems.
"We will start with a humane approach by informing them that
kiosks, bus terminals and roadsides are not the right place to
occupy as places to live. If they oppose our approach we will
take stern measures," said Wimpie. --Antara
