SPX Express renovates home of courier who returned Rp92 million COD overpayment

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Delivery service company SPX Express has renovated the home of a courier who previously went viral for returning Rp92 million that a customer mistakenly transferred to pay for a cash-on-delivery (COD) package.

“Syarif’s honesty is an attitude that deserves appreciation and serves as an example for all of us,” said SPX Express Director of Business Operations Harry Akbar in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

The home renovation had long been a personal plan of Syarif Husein Akbar, who works as an SPX Express package courier in Yogyakarta. The company then chose to make it happen as a form of appreciation for the courier’s good faith.

“We knew Syarif had already planned it. Through this appreciation, we wanted to help make it happen,” he said.

The renovation was provided by taking into account the needs of Syarif and his family. The improvements targeted several parts of the house, from the bathroom, kitchen and roof to the bedroom door.

Harry added that Syarif’s attitude reflects the daily work of SPX couriers in the field, who work with dedication and integrity. Not only that, maintaining professionalism is also part of a courier’s responsibility at work.

The moment of the home renovation was widely discussed after a video was shared on Instagram via the account @beritadiy on Saturday (22/8).

Responding to this, Syarif said he did not expect his story to attract so much attention from the company where he works or from the public.

“Thank you to SPX for the attention and support so that I can repair my house, which I had indeed planned for a long time. It is very useful, matur suwun (thank you),” said Syarif.

Syarif’s story went viral after a customer named Rita Armila shared her experience via her Threads account @ritaarmila31 on Thursday (6/8) after mistakenly transferring Rp92 million to Syarif when paying for a COD package she had ordered.

Instead of staying silent, Syarif actually contacted Rita first as soon as he realised there were excess funds entering his account. He then returned the money in full.
