SPPI Training Refocused on Managerial Skills, Military Elements Scaled Back
The government has directed an evaluation of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) training programme to strengthen managerial material as part of efforts to refine its implementation, according to Chief of Presidential Staff General (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman. During a visit to Sumedang, West Java, on Tuesday, Dudung stated that the refinement was a result of an ongoing evaluation, making the training more oriented towards the needs of the participants. “The evaluation has been underway. Physical activities have been abolished, reduced as much as possible, and the focus is now on cooperative management because these are prospective managers,” he said. Dudung also conveyed that the government is simplifying the training duration as a result of the evaluation, in addition to adjusting the briefing material. He emphasised that the evaluation of the briefings provided to SPPI participants is designed to produce prospective cooperative managers with the ability to manage organisations and businesses professionally. “The briefing may involve theoretical and practical training on management, and I have received information that the time will be shortened,” he stated. Dudung further explained that the basic military material previously given to participants was an introduction to national defence as part of the total people’s defence concept, not combat training like that undergone by soldiers. According to him, this introduction aims to provide a basic understanding of the national defence system and citizen preparedness, without equipping participants with combat tactics or operations, which are the domain of military personnel. He added that the evaluation of the SPPI training implementation will continue so that the material provided becomes increasingly aligned with the programme’s goal of preparing human resources with managerial skills for professional management.
