SPPI Training Claims Another Victim, Total Deaths Rise to Five
The Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) has confirmed that five participants of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih programme have now died whilst undergoing training. The latest victim was Nola Diasari, a participant at the state defence training unit in Kalimantan. Major General TNI Ketut Gede Wetan Pastia, Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSD) at the Ministry of Defence, explained that the deceased had been participating in classroom learning activities without any health complaints until around 6.45 p.m. WIB on Friday (27/6). She subsequently complained of shortness of breath accompanied by a feeling of bodily heat. The unit’s medical team provided initial treatment and referred her to the Emergency Department of Singkawang Hospital at 7.20 p.m. WIB. After stabilisation, the patient was referred to Abdul Aziz Singkawang Hospital for more comprehensive care at around 8.20 p.m. WIB. Despite receiving further medical treatment, she suffered a cardiac arrest. Resuscitation and cardioversion were performed, but her condition could not be restored, and she was pronounced dead at 9.03 p.m. WIB. Ketut stated that Nola had passed all required health selection stages and was declared fit according to prevailing regulations, with the only note from her medical evaluation being excess body weight. He claimed that all participants who died, including Nola, received medical treatment in accordance with applicable procedures from the moment they experienced health issues during training, both at the education unit and upon referral to hospital. He noted that these participants had differing characteristics and medical conditions.
