SPPG's Explanation Regarding the Whole Young Coconut MBG Menu in East Kalimantan
The head of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) Gas Alam Badak 1, Alih Tugas Abdi, has clarified a video showing the distribution of free nutritious meals (MBG) consisting of whole young coconuts to students at Public Elementary School 001 Muara Badak, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan. The incident had previously gone viral on social media. In the circulating video, an MBG delivery vehicle bearing the label “SPPG MA BADAK” can be seen. The enclosed pickup truck was carrying dozens of young coconuts, which were then handed out one by one to students by teachers. Abdi explained that the viral video did not show the complete menu provided by his communal kitchen. He said the video caused a misunderstanding among the public. “The video was misinterpreted, making it seem as though the only thing the students received was young coconuts,” he said in a video statement uploaded to the @sppg_gasalambadak1 account, quoted on Sunday, February 15, 2026. According to him, the kitchen provides two types of menus: dry and wet. The dry menu consists of a whole young coconut, ambon bread, eggs, and milk. The wet menu comprises white rice, eggs in sweet soy sauce, flour-battered fried tofu, sautéed carrots and corn, and watermelon. Abdi acknowledged that whole young coconuts are not a common item in the free nutritious meal program, which he said affected public perception. “For the viral video incident involving the menu we provided, my staff and I sincerely apologize,” he said. Abdi stated that the communal kitchen he manages will improve its meal planning system for the free nutritious meal program. “Going forward, we will be more careful in carrying out this program,” he said.
