Malang, East Java - The Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) in Malang City, Unit Gadang 2, has introduced an innovation in the distribution mechanism for Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) by adopting a buffet or self-service concept. Head of SPPG Malang City Unit Gadang 2, Ita Herlistyawati, at State Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MIN) 2 Malang City, East Java, on Thursday, stated that the buffet concept for MBG is still in the trial phase and could be implemented if deemed effective. “This is our first trial. If it proves effective, it is possible that buffets will be introduced in the future,” said Ita. According to her, the idea for the buffet implemented by SPPG emerged after attending a meeting with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) some time ago. Ita explained that the trial of this innovation was conducted by taking advantage of the halal bihalal event organised by MIN 2 Malang City. “With the implementation of this buffet model, students no longer receive MBG meal packages using ompreng, but instead take the food themselves from what has been served,” she said. Although students have the freedom to choose their meal options, supervision by the SPPG team is still carried out strictly to ensure portions align with nutritional balance aspects. “So there are members of our portioning team who supervise the children during their selection,” she added. Regarding challenges in implementing the buffet concept, Ita noted that it presents more complex logistics compared to distribution using ompreng. Therefore, SPPG Unit Gadang 2 Malang City ensures ongoing evaluation of this concept. The evaluation results will serve as a basis for consideration in determining improvements to the buffet concept for future perfection.
