SPPG Holds Back on Comments After Students and Teachers at SMPN 3 Jetis, Bantul, Suspected of MBG Poisoning
The Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG), which supplies free nutritious meals (MBG) to SMPN 3 Jetis in Bantul, was brief in its response when questioned about the dozens of students suspected of being poisoned after eating the MBG. The SPPG stated it would issue an official clarification. “We will announce it later; we will provide details as soon as possible,” said Hanif Saka, Head of the SPPG supplying MBG to SMPN 3 Jetis, to reporters in Jetis, Bantul, on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Regarding the suspected poisoning at SMPN 3 Jetis after consuming the MBG menu, Hanif was unable to comment extensively. According to him, everything is awaiting the laboratory test results on the food samples. “It will come from the Labkesda. We will confirm to the media later,” he said briefly. Previously reported, officials at SMPN 3 Jetis, Bantul, stated they have stopped receiving free nutritious meal (MBG) deliveries after teachers and students experienced poisoning symptoms. Currently, most students have returned and are participating in teaching and learning activities (KBM). “Since yesterday, we have stopped. The incident happened on Monday (14/4/2026), and on Tuesday we stopped, because on Monday morning around 8 a.m., the atmosphere was no longer conducive, with many children asking to go to the toilet,” said Widodo, Principal of SMPN 3 Jetis, to reporters in Jetis, Bantul, on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Widodo said the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) has halted MBG distribution starting today. “If the SPPG does not carry out MBG distribution starting Wednesday (15/4/2026) until a time that has not yet been determined by the SPPG side,” he stated. Regarding the condition of the students, Widodo said most have joined KBM. He mentioned that to date, the total number of students experiencing poisoning symptoms reached 75 people. “Those who went to the Puskesmas yesterday are still permitted to stay home to recover their stamina and mental state. For those who did not go to the Puskesmas, we encourage them to attend KBM,” he said. Widodo explained that some teachers also experienced poisoning symptoms. This is because those teachers also ate the MBG. “For the teachers, around 30 were affected. But now they are all healthy and have returned to their duties,” he said.
