Spotify introduces new setting to prevent children's music from affecting parental recommendations

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Spotify has introduced a new setting that allows parents to exclude children’s and family music from their music taste profiles.

According to a statement from Spotify received in Jakarta on Monday, parents frequently rely on Spotify to play their children’s favourite songs, even though their musical tastes are not always the same. Spotify’s new setting enables parents to prevent this content from influencing their personal profiles.

The setting also applies to previous listening activities, ensuring that children’s and family music is no longer taken into account when personalising the music streaming platform’s recommendations.

Nevertheless, parents can still search for, listen to, and create playlists containing children’s and family music as usual.

Users can change this setting via mobile devices by opening ‘Settings and privacy’ and then tapping their profile picture in the top left corner.

Next, select ‘Content and display’, then disable the toggle next to the option ‘Include kids and family music in the taste profile’.

Spotify noted that the change in settings may take up to 48 hours to be reflected in personalised recommendations. The feature will be available to all Spotify users within the coming days.
