Sports training bumped by rally

JAMBI, Jambi: Politics has been given priority here, with the campaign rally of presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri forcing a postponement in a training session for local athletes preparing for the National Games in Palembang.

A provincial sports committee official said 90 athletes selected for the games would start their intensive training at the Tri Lomba Juang stadium on Sunday as the rally held by Megawati's supporters on Friday would be held at the stadium.

The official, who requested anonymity, said the sports committee had reduced activities due to the campaign as its office was located in the stadium.

He said the athletes would undergo intensive training until August before leaving for the games in September. -- Antara
