Sports ministry irrelevant
Sports ministry irrelevant
From Koran Tempo
The chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Agum Gumelar, has said that we need a sports ministry in view of our declining sporting achievements, and that sports matters must be separated from youth matters.
In this context, careful thought must be given before a sports ministry is set up. The establishment of a sports ministry does not necessarily mean improved sporting achievements.
Sport is part of education. Poor achievements in the sporting field show a poor level of national education. It is common practice now to concentrate sporting activities only on certain sports events. What must be done is to improve education in terms of facilities and infrastructure.
