Sports event for disabled opens

JAKARTA: A one-week sporting event for disabled people in the
city opened at the Gelora Ragunan sports center in South Jakarta
on Friday.

Hearing impaired, mentally disabled and physically handicapped
competitors all participated in the event, opened by Vice
Governor Djailani on Friday.

Djailani said the event was designed to nurture and to
motivate the disabled to live their lives normally in the wider
community.

The event was also aimed at developing a sense of solidarity
among the disabled, he added. --JP
