Sport and Networking Combine to Aid NTT Earthquake Recovery
A charity initiative combining sport, networking and social action has been held to support communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Through strategic collaboration, the event successfully raised Rp175 million, which will be allocated in full to support recovery efforts in the affected region.
The initiative was realised by the Berkeley Club of Indonesia (BCI), the official alumni association of the University of California, Berkeley in Indonesia, in partnership with T3 Sports & Lifestyle. They organised padel and pickleball matches designed to bring together BCI members and the sporting community in an atmosphere that fostered both interaction and philanthropy.
The event took place on Saturday, 5 September 2026, at T3 Sports & Lifestyle on Jalan Tirtayasa, South Jakarta. In addition to the sporting competition, the programme drew wide support from the BCI network, which cumulatively attracted sympathy and donations from 5,443 donors.
“The spirit of togetherness and contribution is an essential part of Beyond the Court: Flores. For BCI, this event demonstrates that sport can be a space for building connections while driving real action for those in need,” said Andrew Tirtowijoyo Young, General Secretary of the Berkeley Club of Indonesia and Head of Bears Care for NTT.
Andrew added that every participant’s contribution carries deep meaning for the survivors. “Our sweat today is a breath of relief for those who need it. May a movement born from a single court bring benefits to many more people in Flores,” he continued.
All funds collected will be channelled through the NTT Recovery Program managed by the YCAB Foundation. Relief efforts in the affected areas are now entering the recovery phase, where the focus of assistance is shifting from emergency response towards restoring stability across various aspects of community life.
YCAB Foundation will adapt the use of the funds based on field assessments and evolving needs. The contribution is projected to form part of medium-term support to help residents resume their daily activities normally.
