S'pore urges SE Asia on terrorism

SINGAPORE:Southeast Asian countries must take strong measures to
combat terrorism in the region, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister
Tony Tan said on Monday.

"It involves the whole region. We have to work with the other
countries in ASEAN to take active steps to prevent such attacks
from taking place," Tan was quoted as saying on NewsRadio 93.8.

Tan's remarks came after more than 180 people were killed in a
weekend bomb blast on the Indonesian island resort of Bali which
Indonesia's defense minister said was linked to Osama bin Laden's
al-Qaeda network.

Terrorism is a "global problem" and a strong effort must be
mounted in the campaign against terrorism, said Tan, who is also
defense minister. --AFP
