S'pore to open office in Riau
SINGAPORE (AFP): Singapore is to open a new consulate in Indonesia's Riau province, the Singapore ministry of foreign affairs said Tuesday.
The consulate will start operations on Wednesday in Pekanbaru, the provincial capital of Riau, the ministry said in a statement.
"With more Singaporean businessmen and tourists visiting Riau province, the Singapore consulate in Pekanbaru will provide the necessary consular services to them," it said.
Malaysia is the only other country with a consulate office in Riau.
Natural gas-rich Riau and the Riau Islands are located just south of Singapore.
