S'pore tanker fire kills crew member
SINGAPORE (Reuter): One crew member died and another is missing after a fire on an oil tanker in Singapore harbor, police said yesterday.
The fire on board the 26,909-dwt Ocean Trader broke out early Wednesday evening while the Singapore-registered vessel was berthed at an oil terminal operated by U.S. oil company Mobil Corp. It was brought under control about 90 minutes later.
Mobil said the tanker was discharging condensate, a type of light crude oil, to the Mobil refinery when the accident happened.
The offshore terminal is joined by a pipeline network to Mobil's 300,000 barrel-per-day refinery on mainland Singapore. A Mobil spokeswoman said the fire on the Ocean Trader would not affect refinery operations. The ship had remained docked at the berth overnight, she said.
