SINGAPORE (AFP): About 400 personnel from the navies of Singapore and Indonesia are to take part in a 10-day biennial exercise, Singapore's defense ministry said on Monday.
The bilateral exercise, which begins on Monday, will involve day and night encounters, antisubmarine warfare and practice surface target firing, the statement said.
Known as Ex Eagle, the exercise will be held in two phases in the seaport of Surabaya on the northeast coast of Java, as well as in the Java Sea, and waters off the Indonesian coast, it said.
"Ex Eagle, which has expanded in scope over the years, is a manifestation of the warm ties between the Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)," the ministry said.
